Since Trump’s election, investors have been expecting higher economic growth. A significant portion of his platform surrounded lower taxes, lower regulation and replacing a costly Obamacare – all items which would spur economic activity. Since taking office, the President has made several proposals which now seem to be on shaky ground. This balance between investors expectations of higher growth vs. the likelihood of successful passage suggests the market is riding on the razor’s edge of Trump’s Presidential success, or failure. In this piece, I examine the recent market action along with investor sentiment in an effort to tease out the most likely long-term direction of the market.
